How To Always Look Elegant
Mastering the art of effortless chic
Hey It-Girls! If you're anything like me then you're always seeking out ways to look and feel more effortless in your personal style. After years of studying fashion icons old and new, I've come to understand that there are a few universal indicators of chic. In an attempt to master my signature look this year I started creating a list of details that I believe will always make a person look more elegant and put together. I know you guys have loved all my personal style posts so far, so I thought I'd share all the tips I've discovered in today's blog post!
1. Sleek Pulled Back Hairstyles

The first thing that always screams chic to me, is the way a woman styles her hair. From Fulani braids to a sleek low bun, any style that highlights rather than hiding your face, instantly elevates your look.
2. Skincare > Makeup

Over the years I think we've all come to realise that the best possible base for your makeup is actually just healthy skin. Nothing says 'effortless' like being able to just throw on some mascara and a glossy lip before walking out the door.
3. Focus On Fit

I've come to realise there's a big difference between effortless and 'no effort' and that difference is: fit. When you're uncomfortable with the way your clothes sit on your body, it shows! On the contrary, when your clothes fit well, it communicates in a subtle yet effective way, that you take pride in looking and feeling your best.
4. Dress For Your Body Type

This brings me to one of my absolute favourite style tips: dressing for your body type. It's crazy how much your style can evolve just by knowing what proportions to minimise and exaggerate when dressing. For example, if you're a petite gal (like myself), opting for outfits that emphasise your waist while elongating your legs will transform your look, making you appear taller and more curvy. Pinterest also has some great tips for learning how to balance your proportions.
5. In the wise words of Coco Chanel...take one thing off

If Chanel said it, you know it has to be true. This is one piece of advice that has always stuck with me, especially when it comes to accessorising. My golden rule has always been to prioritise only one statement piece of jewellery at a time.
6. Stay Well Groomed

Finally, I know lockdown has us all slacking some days in the grooming department. I am definitely guilty of this myself but as they say, if you stay ready, you don't have to get ready! We don't always have time during the week to keep ourselves in check but incorporating a grooming session into your #selfcaresunday routine will set you back on track for the week ahead.
