5 Ways To Authentically Brand Yourself Online

Personal branding seems to be the buzz phrase of the moment but for most of us, the concept is still so abstract. It can be a nightmare figuring out where to start. So in this post, I'm giving you five ways to kick-start the process of discovering your personal brand and becoming more authentic online!
1. Stop looking for your personal brand
It's not out there, it's in you!
While it's totally natural to want to look to others for inspiration, it's counterproductive to expect someone else to shed light on who you are and what you represent. You already have a personal brand whether you've created one or not. The key is to get introspective and notice what makes you unique.
2. Shut out the noise
So you can start to recognise your own voice
We are constantly consuming other people's content. If you follow accounts that do a similar thing to you, it's likely that you regularly compare yourself to them. If you want to be able to see yourself clearly you need to block out the constant stream of opinions and ideas from others and focus on your own. Mute similar accounts, unfollow and remove followers that make you second-guess yourself.
3. Write a Fun Facts list about yourself
To discover your unique quirks
Discovering your personal brand shouldn't feel daunting - it should make you excited! Think about all the things that make you, you. Do you have a unique talent or strange obsession? People will be drawn to how relatable you are so embrace the weird! Want to see my fun facts list? Check it out here!
4. Have relevant opinions
To draw in like-minded people
If you want to attract your tribe, you need to show that you have thoughts of your own and aren't just regurgitating information. This doesn't mean posting controversial or offensive content; it means creating discussions within your industry. Is there an 'Instagram hack' people are sharing that you don't agree with? Share your opinion and offer an alternative! You'll find there's probably people out there who agree with you!
5. Notice what people say about you
To see how you are perceived by others
It's true that you shouldn't care what people think about you but coming from the right people, it can actually be useful to know how you come across! Do people constantly comment on how 'down-to-earth' you are? Are you a great listener? Those positive traits are all part of your personal brand. Leverage these traits to connect with people and you'll build a reputation worth talking about.
